Historical Image
The 1890s saw the return of huge gigot sleeves. Much like the 1830s, these sleeves and the wide skirt hems emphasized the fashionably small waist.
Undergarment
Petticoats of the period were slim around the hips and full at the back. The hem was often tucked and decorated with lace, which helped to support the wide skirt hem.
Undergarment
Corsetry of the late 19th century was intricately cut and pieced to maximally shape the body. While it still supported the bust, corsets also constricted the waist.
